Students from TJ Marston's Spring Landscape Architecture Graduate Design 04 Studio visited their site in Toledo, Ohio this past weekend. Local members of the design community from the Toledo Design Center, Toledo Warehouse District Association, The Collaborative Inc., ConnectToledo and Midstory took time out of their weekend to speak with the students, tour through the warehouse district and discuss design ideas. The visit culminated in a six hour design charette where students developed conceptual strategies aimed at utilizing public space as a catalyst for revitalizing the Toledo Warehouse District in a collaborative design environment. The visit was a great success, and the entire group left feeling excited, energized and in love with Toledo, Ohio!

This Saturday The Gallery Club will be hosting a symposium to kick off their new exhibition, The American Landscape at the The Alfred DuPont Building in Miami, Florida. Plot Studio's TJ Marston will be a guest panelist along with her FIU colleagues; Linda Chamorro, Ivan Santiago and David Rifkind. Come join the discussion, meet three of the photographers, and see the American Landscape from a new lens. Info From The Gallery Club Website : In collaboration with the FIU Architecture and Landscape Architecture Department, The Gallery Club organizes a special afternoon with the photographers Marie-José Jongerius, Sem Langendijk and Bert Teunissen, who will give special presentations about their work, followed by a panel discussion with: Linda Chamorro (Landscape Architect and FIU faculty member), TJ Marston (Landscape Architect and FIU faculty member) and Ivan Santiago (Photographer and FIU staff). Consul General Gera Sneller of the Netherlands will give her opening remarks and the afternoon is moderated by David Rifkind, associate professor Architecture and Landscape architecture at FIU.
The Graduate Design 05 Studio had two midterms this October. Outside jurors as well as FIU LA+EUD faculty attended the presentations. The jurors were impressed with the students resolve to solve complex water quality issues and employ innovative adaptive design solutions for climate resiliency.
We can't wait to see the final at the end of this November! Florida International University's Landscape Architecture Graduate Design 5 Studio visited the St. Lucie River near Stuart, Florida this past Friday to learn more about the water quality issues plaguing the region. The devastating blue-green algae bloom had a noticeable effect on the region. Once a vibrant fishing town, local attractions lay sleepy as tourists and locals avoided most water-bodies, a lifeblood of the community.
After a quick watershed analysis, the graduate design 5 students at FIU's LAEUD program have selected their sites for the BLOOM Studio. The studio group narrowed it down to 5 sites ranging from the urban to rural conditions. Each site has a unique ability to use natural infrastructure to impact water quality and provide socio-economic and cultural benefits in the area.
PLOT Studio's TJ Marston will be joining FIU's Landscape Architecture, Environmental + Urban Design program full time this year as a Visiting Instructor for the 2018-19 academic year.
This fall semester, PLOT Studio's TJ Marston will be teaching three courses in FIU's Landscape Architecture, Environmental + Urban Design Program :
This summer PLOT Studio's TJ Marston worked with incoming students in FIU's Landscape Architecture and Interior Design programs. She taught both Visual Notations and Design Foundations Studio, each an intensive 6 week foundation course where students developed critical toolsets in graphics and the design process. Student models from Design Foundations explore ways to measure and understand dynamic phenomenal processes which transform space (evaporation, heat, movement, growth, erosion, noise, etc). They used their in-depth studies to explore design interventions which catalyze those dynamic processes and allow for adaptive solutions to design problems.
The Final Review for the Graduate Design 2 Studio at FIU's Landscape Architecture, Environmental, and Urban Design Program (LAEUD) was held on April 12, 2018 at FIU's main campus. This semester the students explored the future of golf in a city which is challenged by a low demand for the sport, increased cost of golf course maintenance, growing ecological concerns, and a lack of public space.
